Record #200040:

Large seasonal modulation of tides due to ice cover friction in a mid-latitude estuary / Nickitas Georgas.

Title: Large seasonal modulation of tides due to ice cover friction in a mid-latitude estuary / Nickitas Georgas.
Author(s): Georgas, Nickitas.
Date: 2012.
In: Journal of Physical Oceanography. (2012.), (42) (2012)
Abstract: Presents hypothesis that significant seasonal tidal damping and tidal modulation observed in Hudson River estuary 2007-2011 were due to increase in ice concentration and development of seasonal ice field in upper 170 km of tidal Hudson. Tests hypothesis with stationary (tidal harmonic) and non-stationary (wavelet) analyses and numerical modelling. Notes that ice cover friction can reduce accuracy of astronomical tide-based and operational forecast model predictions.
