Record #199984:

The distribution of surface sediment diatoms in the Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea / Lihua Ran, and 5 others.

Title: The distribution of surface sediment diatoms in the Bering Sea and Chukchi Sea / Lihua Ran, and 5 others.
Author(s): Ran, Lihua.
Date: 2012.
Language: Chinese.
In: Chinese Journal of Polar Research. (2012.), Vol. 24(1) (2012)
Abstract: Analyses diatoms from surface sediment samples in Bering and Chukchi seas to reveal distribution pattern of surface sediment diatoms and their relationship with ocean environment. Diatoms were found to be absent from sediment samples from north of Arctic Sea Ice Minimum, indicating that diatom reproduction and growth are strongly inhibited by sea ice. In areas between Arctic Sea Ice Minimum and Maximum (i.e. areas influenced by seasonally changing sea ice), sea-ice diatoms (mainly Fragilariopsis oceanica and F. cylindrus) were found to be dominant species.
