Record #199704:

Diversification of Antarctic tourism: the case of a scuba diving expedition / Machiel Lamers, Hans Gelter.

Title: Diversification of Antarctic tourism: the case of a scuba diving expedition / Machiel Lamers, Hans Gelter.
Author(s): Lamers, Machiel.
Gelter, Hans.
Date: 2012.
In: Polar Record. (2012.), Vol. 48(246) (2012)
Abstract: Explores implications of diversification of Antarctic tourism into different activities and modes of transport for Antarctic tourist experiences, wildlife and onsite management, using evidence collected during diving expedition cruise to west coast of Antarctic Peninsula aboard Aleksey Marychev in March 2009. Data suggests significant differences in way divers and non-divers experience aspects of trip, most notably regarding guides. Results also indicate that diverse activities generate broader variance in attitudes and behaviours, which may have repercussions for wildlife, site use and onsite management.
