Record #199606:

Modern glacimarine processes and potential future behaviour of Kronebreen and Kongsvegen polythermal tidewater glaciers, Kongsfjorden, Svalbard / Luke D. Trusel, and 3 others.

Title: Modern glacimarine processes and potential future behaviour of Kronebreen and Kongsvegen polythermal tidewater glaciers, Kongsfjorden, Svalbard / Luke D. Trusel, and 3 others.

In: Fjord systems and archives. (2010.),
Abstract: Characterises modern glacimarine environment, quantifies sediment flux and yield, documents landform genesis and hypothesises potential future behaviour of Kronebreen and Kongsvegen glaciers in inner Kongsfjorden, Svalbard. Finds that retreat of Kronebreen-Kongsvegen glacier complex has significantly slowed in recent decades due to post-surge quiescent-phase conditions. Hydrographic profiles record mixing of fjord and glacial waters, including transport and rainout of suspended sediments, closer than previously documented. Sediment trap data show that Kronebreen is now major suspended sediment source as opposed to Kongsvegen, relationship that has reversed within last 25 years. Ablation season of Kronebreen and Kongsvegen is expected to grow with continued climate warming. Under warming conditions greater sedimentation rates are expected and faster infilling of inner basin of Kongsfjorden.
