Abstract: | Surveys hunting amulets and other objects of occupational cult among reindeer herding Northern Yakut people collected in 1942-46. Describes divination ceremony in detail. Evinces evidence of mixed beliefs i.e. magic powers of fetishist objects, interwoven with later belief in zoomorphic and anthropomorphic masters of nature, plus belief in Bayanay, principal Yakut protector of hunting. |
