Abstract: | Notes that transvestism was especially peculiar to shamanism among Kamchadaly, Koryaki and Chukchi of Siberia. Describes in detail case of transvestism in Fergana Valley of Central Asia in 1968, confirming typological identity between peoples of Central Asia and North-East Siberia. Concludes that transvestism should not regarded as peculiarity only of shamanism, but related to priesthood in diverse forms. |
