In: Silva Fennica. (2012.), Vol. 46(2) (2012)
Abstract: Investigates productivity of Norway spruce (Picea abies L. Karst.) and Scots pine (Pinus sylvestris L.) in 12 paired plots in interior of northern Sweden. Stands were established between 1928 and 1959; yield plots were established between 1974 and 1983 during pre-commercial thinning of stands. Gross stem-wood production was significantly higher for Scots pine than for Norway spruce. Data from study supports recommendation that Norway spruce should only be planted on most fertile sites that have high availability of nutrients and water.
