Record #199440:

Fall migration of ringed seals (Phoca hispida) through the Beaufort and Chukchi seas, 2001-02 / Lois A. Harwood, Thomas G. Smith, James C. Auld.

Title: Fall migration of ringed seals (Phoca hispida) through the Beaufort and Chukchi seas, 2001-02 / Lois A. Harwood, Thomas G. Smith, James C. Auld.
Author(s): Harwood, Lois A.
Smith, Thomas G.
Auld, James C.
Date: 2012.
In: Arctic. (2012.), Vol. 65(1) (2012)
Abstract: Examines range, distribution and habitat use of ringed seal in Canada's western Arctic, by fitting eight live-captured ringed seals with satellite-linked (SLTDR-16) transmitters and releasing them at Cape Parry, NWT. Finds that all transmitting seals undertook relatively synchronous westward autumn migration from Canadian Beaufort Sea, along shore of Alaska's North Slope and onward to Chukchi Sea, over approx. one month. Short and shallow dives predominated in all age classes and overall mean rate of travel was rapid.
