Abstract: Reviews work by Icelandic and other researchers on patterned ground in Iceland. Notes lack to date of systematic study and criticises tendency, particularly of non-Icelandic researchers, to over-generalise what may be polygenetic phenomena. Sections deal with bare patterned ground, vegetation-covered patterned ground, and Icelandic flá (type of bog).
