Record #199379:

Sea ice in Canada / David G. Barber, Jennifer Lukovich.

Title: Sea ice in Canada / David G. Barber, Jennifer Lukovich.
Author(s): Barber, David G.
Lukovich, Jennifer.
Date: 2012.
Publisher: Oxford: Wiley-Blackwell
In: Changing cold environments : a Canadian perspective. (2012.),
Abstract: Notes dramatic reduction in summer minimum of sea ice in Northern Hemisphere. Describes formation and physical nature of sea ice in different conditions. Examines spatial distribution and seasonal and secular changes in Arctic and Canada (Beaufort Sea, Canadian Archipelago, Baffin Bay, and Hudson Bay). Examines sea ice and climate change, covering: global scale warming and response of sea ice in Northern Hemisphere; changes in summer minimum and ice thickness; and drivers of change (ice-albedo feedback, surface air temperature increase, influences of large-scale atmospheric forcing mechanisms and meridional transport on increasingly mobile ice pack, and increase in solar radiation absorption due to increase in first-year ice). Discusses implications for northern communities, economic development and environment.
