Record #199376:

Remote sensing and Canadian snow climatology / Richard Kelly.

Title: Remote sensing and Canadian snow climatology / Richard Kelly.
Author(s): Kelly, Richard.
Date: 2012.
Publisher: Oxford: Wiley-Blackwell
In: Changing cold environments : a Canadian perspective. (2012.),
Abstract: Describes temporal and spatial variabilities of snow cover extent (SCE) and snow water equivalent (SWE) in Canada, and techniques used to measure them. Outlines importance of snow in earth system, and to Canada in particular. Describes snow measurements, including in situ measurement and federal and provincial datasets, and visible IR and passive microwave remote sensing. Discusses seasonal and long-term variations in SCE and SWE inferred from remote sensing, and issues of resolution and snow metamorphism, etc. Notes, e.g., shortening of Canadian winter snow season by more than 1 day/yr, connection between high SCE variability in prairies with North Pacific sea surface temperatures, and shortening of melt season.
Notes:

In: Changing cold environments : a Canadian perspective / Hugh French, Olav Slaymaker, eds.
