| Abstract: | Details annual survey of Italian glaciers. Summarizes observations for Piemonte-Val D'Aosta, Lombardia and Tre Venezie sectors, and Calderone glacier in Appenines, indicating advance/retreat and snout elevation, and highlighting significant mass balance totals and morphological changes. Of 197 glaciers checked, 145 were measured, of which 143 retreated. One terminus (Aouillié) advanced, once was stationary and one showed partial advance amid general retreat. Analyzes meteorological conditions/trends for hydrological year 2006-2007, and assesses climate impact on glacial dynamics, noting generally high temperatures but "cool" summer, and scarce snowfall. Lists key observations for over 100 glaciers, with brief descriptions (in Italian), and photographs of many. |
