Record #199353:

Grunty strukturalne w Polsce / Maciej Dąbski.

Title: Grunty strukturalne w Polsce / Maciej Dąbski.
Translated title: Patterned grounds in Poland.
Author(s): Dąbski, Maciej.
Date: 2011.
Language: Polish.
In: Przegląd Geograficzny. (2011.), Vol. 83(3) (2011)
Abstract: Discusses regular, ordered patterns visible on ground surface in Poland. Divides into patterns on (mainly) lowland terrain occupied by continental Pleistocene glaciations, and those in alpine periglacial zone of Polish Carpathians and Sudetes. Describes identification in aerial imagery of non-montane patterns, and attributes these large-scale, non-sorted polygons to permafrost conditions during last glacial. Also describes system of dry valleys in SE Poland thought to originate from thermokarstic subsidence on former large scale ice-wedges. Describes variety of (mostly relict) patterned ground found in Tatra and Karkanosze ranges, including thufurs and sorted circles, polygons, nets and stripes. Poorly developed sorted patterned ground is also found elsewhere in Polish mountains above treeline.
