Изотопный состав углерода палеонтологических останков - источник информации о климате прошлого

Title: Изотопный состав углерода палеонтологических останков - источник информации о климате прошлого
Title, transliterated: Izotopnyĭ sostav ugleroda paleontologicheskikh ostankov - istochnik informat︠s︡ii o klimate proshlogo / V.I. Nikolaev, and 3 others.
Translated title: Carbon isotope composition of fossil remains as a source of information on past climate.
Author(s): Nikolaev, V. I.
Date: 2011.
Language: Russian.
In: Led i Sneg. (2011.), Vol. 3(115) (2011)
Abstract: Describes use of carbon isotope composition, δ¹³C, in bone carbonate of herbivores as palaeoclimate indicator for polar regions. Bases method on relative proportion of C3 and C4 plants (differing in photosynthesis type) in animal diet, and high-latitude absence of C4 plants. Argues that most indirect effects of local conditions on δ¹³C values in plants can be disregarded for polar tundra. Climate may cause variation of up to 3 per mil in a particular plant species. Describes palaeoclimatic study of around 30 ¹⁴C-dated bone carbonate samples (mainly mammoth) from Lena Delta/Bol'shoy Lyakhovsky Island/Oyagossky Yar region. Confirms main reconstructed events (MIS3-MIS2 transition 26-24 ka BP; MIS3 climatic optimum 33-32 ka BP; cooling 38-34 ka BP; etc.) with independent studies.
