Снежные лавины из ледниковых каров в условиях быстро меняющегося климата

Title: Снежные лавины из ледниковых каров в условиях быстро меняющегося климата
Title, transliterated: Snezhnye laviny iz lednikovykh karov v uslovii︠a︡kh bystro meni︠a︡i︠u︡shchegosi︠a︡ klimata / A.D. Oleĭnikov.
Translated title: Snow avalanches from glacial cirques in the rapidly changing climate.
Author(s): Oleĭnikov, A. D.
Date: 2011.
Language: Russian.
In: Led i Sneg. (2011.), Vol. 3(115) (2011)
Abstract: Investigates increase in avalanche activity arising from corrie glacier degradation in Greater Caucasus. Some 30% of region's glaciers disappeared between 1880 and 1976. Most were corrie-type glaciers, which now constitute around 64% of region's glaciers by number and 35% by area. Glacier retreat and disappearance lead to changes in mountain slope morphometry and snow-accumulation. Maps changes in corrie glacier margins on northern slope of Cheget mountain since mid-19th century and analyzes effect on surface slopes. Examines avalanche records, including destruction of ancient trees in valleys beneath glacial cirques in El'brus area during 1953-2002. Shows that slope changes in avalanche starting zones can be 8-10° and that frequency of large avalanches is increasing.
