Record #199341:

Past and prospective changes in the state of Central Asian glaciers / V.G. Konovalov.

Title: Past and prospective changes in the state of Central Asian glaciers / V.G. Konovalov.
Author(s): Konovalov, V. G.
Date: 2011.
Language: Russian transliteration entered into original records using BGN/PCGN 1947 romanisation of Russian; Cyrillic text in MARC 880 field(s) reverse transliterated from this by automated process; BGN/PCGN 1947 text then upgraded to Library of Congress romanisation.
In: Led i Sneg. (2011.), Vol. 3(115) (2011)
Abstract: Examines long-term changes in glacier surface area and runoff in Aral Sea basin (particularly Amudarya and Syrdrya river basins), based on inventory, remote sensing, and hydrological model REGMOD. Estimates glacier area totals for 1961, 1980, 1991, 2000 and 2020 (projected). Total area decreased by 2,860 km² (21.8%) from 1961-2000. Discusses runoff contribution from snow cover. Determines glacier runoff statistics and spatial/temporal distributions for high and low water flow years. Finds, e.g.: intraseasonal distribution of Amudarya basin glacier runoff in average/low water years allows steady rate of water consumption, but stabilization of interannual runoff variability diminished during 1981-2000 due to 13% glacier area loss; and June-September average air temperature is useful index for estimating glacier runoff in Pamir basins.
