Катастрофическая деградация ледника Мелберн (горны Св. Ильи, Канада) в XX - начале XXI века

Title: Катастрофическая деградация ледника Мелберн (горны Св. Ильи, Канада) в XX - начале XXI века
Title, transliterated: Katastroficheskai︠a︡ degradat︠s︡ii︠a︡ lednika Melbern (gorny Sv. Ilʹi, Kanada) v XX - nachale XXI veka / D.A. Petrakov, and 5 others.
Translated title: Catastrophic degradation of Melbern glacier (St. Elias Range, Canada) in 20th and beginning of 21st century.
Author(s): Petrakov, D. A.
Date: 2011.
Language: Russian.
In: Led i Sneg. (2011.), Vol. 3(115) (2011)
Abstract: Uses maps, satellite images and field data to analyze change of Melbern Glacier over last 100 years, during which glacier terminus retreated 17 km (highest rate of all tidewater glaciers), area decreased by 75%, and surface lowered by more than 250 m. Compares glacier surface elevations for 1908, 1979, 1987 and 2000. Presents bathymetry of proglacial Melbern Lake, and coastline time series from 1979 to 2008. Discusses climate change contribution to glacier reduction, dynamics of Melbern-Grand Pacific glacier system, and influence of deep proglacial lake. Surface lowering was fastest between 1908 and 1979, when air temperature decreased slightly and terminus retreated slowly. Surface lowering rate then more than halved, despite summer temperature increase >1°C and lake formation.
