520 3# ‡aDescribes investigation of freezing of water drops in dispersion of "dry water" (water droplets are surrounded by silica coating), using nuclear magnetic relaxation spectroscopy and differential thermal analysis. Demonstrates possibility of using "dry water" as model system for analyzing supercooled water crystallization in microdrops containing hydrophobic particles. Analyzes ice nucleation mechanisms in "dry water", and establishes high ice-forming ability of hydrophobic particles of Aerosil R 202. Shows that spectrum of spin-spin relaxation and thermogram of "dry water" differential thermal analysis consist of several components reflecting distribution of dispersed phase microdrops by size. Finds that freezing-thawing of "dry water" leads to separation of "bulk water", with considerable part kept in form of individual microdrops.
