Abstract: Reconstructs evolution of Rutor Glacier since Little Ice Age (LIA) maximum extent, based on ground surveys, digital techniques and pre-existing time series data. Creates DEMs and hypsographic curves for LIA maximum, 1975 and 1991. Presents time series of glacier terminus position, area and volume. Reports terminus retreat of 2 km from mid-19th century to 2004, with evidence for two cold periods of advance. Retreat that began in 1990 is faster than earlier recessions. Glacier lost 480 million m³ from LIA maximum to 1991, ELA changed from 2,775 m to 2,850 m. Last decades have seen large mass loss via glacier thinning without significant retreat.
