Record #199318:

Palaeo sea ice distribution and reconstruction derived from the geological record / Leanne K. Armand, Amy Leventer.

Title: Palaeo sea ice distribution and reconstruction derived from the geological record / Leanne K. Armand, Amy Leventer.
Author(s): Armand, Leanne K.
Leventer, Amy.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: Oxford: Wiley-Blackwell
In: Sea ice. (2010.),
Abstract: Reviews methods for reconstructing past sea ice distribution and its seasonal variability, based on microfossil assemblage distribution and geochemical and sedimentological tracers. For Antarctic, discusses: sedimentological tracers; diatom studies and their interpretation (lists relevant diatom studies and summarizes biological and chemical sea ice proxies); modern sea ice satellite data used in diatom proxy statistical analyses; and continental ice core sea salt proxies. For Arctic, discusses methods including ice core data, sedimentological tracers (IRD including driftwood), geochemical tracers (clay minerals, biomarkers and stable isotope), microfossils (calcareous, foraminifer and tintinnids, and dinoflagellate cysts). Reviews time slice reconstructions from pre-Quaternary to present.
