Record #199308:

Sea ice and oceanography / Mark A. Brandon, Finlo R. Cottier, Frank Nilsen.

Title: Sea ice and oceanography / Mark A. Brandon, Finlo R. Cottier, Frank Nilsen.
Author(s): Brandon, Mark A.
Cottier, Finlo R.
Nilsen, Frank.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: Oxford: Wiley-Blackwell
In: Sea ice. (2010.),
Abstract: Stresses coupled nature of sea ice and oceanography, focusing on examples from both polar regions that illustrate how each modifies and influences properties and processes of other. Presents simplified description of general ocean circulation of Arctic and Antarctic, before covering: Arctic halocline (advection and convection mechanisms); polynyas and production of very dense water in shallow shelf polar seas; cascading of dense, brine-enriched waters down continental slope to form deep and intermediate waters of global oceans; use of isotopes as tracers in polar regions; and future sampling technologies.
