Record #199307:

Growth, structure and properties of sea ice / Chris Petrich, Hajo Eicken.

Title: Growth, structure and properties of sea ice / Chris Petrich, Hajo Eicken.
Author(s): Petrich, Chris.
Eicken, Hajo.
Date: 2010.
Publisher: Oxford: Wiley-Blackwell
In: Sea ice. (2010.),
Abstract: Builds in scale from submillimetre upwards, characterizing microscopic properties and processes and how they determine macroscopic properties. Contrasts properties of lake ice with those of sea ice due to presence of salt, before covering: ions in the water - sea ice microstructure and phase diagram (influence of ions on ice growth at crystal scale in rough and quiescent conditions); desalination and pore microstructure (dynamic feedback system between fluid dynamics and pore volume, at microscopic and continuum scales); physical properties (optical, dielectric and thermal, and macroscopic ice strength); and sea-ice growth models, deformation and melt, and energy budget.
