Popular science writing and the history of glaciology / Jacopo Pasotti.

Title: Popular science writing and the history of glaciology / Jacopo Pasotti.
Author(s): Pasotti, Jacopo.
Date: 2005.
Abstract: Explores potential for non-fiction book popularizing history of glaciology and demonstrating subject's relevance to global warming research. Reviews literature on scientific writing in general and examines modes of science communication in popular books, aiming to identify how best to summarize, expose and deliver scientific messages. Invites three experts in glaciology (and indigenous knowledge) to discuss expectations, misconceptions and themes to be emphasized. Presents potential book structure and three sample chapters: Living in a changing climate; The Inuit, the Norse and the evil in the ice; Early explorers and early cartographers - their view of glaciers and polar regions.
