Геокриологические условия Антарктиды

Title: Геокриологические условия Антарктиды
Title, transliterated: Geokriologicheskie uslovii︠a︡ Antarktidy / A.A. Abramov, and 4 others.
Translated title: Geocryological conditions of Antarctica.
Author(s): Abramov, A. A.
Date: 2011.
Language: Russian.
In: Kriosfera Zemli. (2011.), Vol. 15(3) (2011)
Abstract: Reviews geocryological conditions of Antarctica and results from US-Russian collaboration. Severity of geocryological conditions increases in sequence: sub-Antarctic islands (Bellingshausen), Bunger Hills (Oasis II), Schirmacher Hills (Novolazarevskaya), Larsemann Hills (Progress), Thala Hills (Molodezhnaya), Marie Byrd Land (Russkaya), Wilson Hills (Leningradskaya.). Conditions are most severe in Dry Valleys (McMurdo). Mean ground temperatures decrease from close to zero to -25°C to -30°C. Active layer thickness decreases from several metres to zero. Cryogenic processes are widespread in ice-free areas and first centimetres from surface are affected by primary soil-forming processes. Permafrost studied in coastal ice-free areas is of Holocene and late Pleistocene age, in Dry Valleys of late Miocene and mid/late Pleistocene age (up to 30 million years)
