Record #199287:

The Quaternary of the southwest German Alpine Foreland (Bodensee-Oberschwaben, Baden-Württemburg, Southwest Germany) / Dietrich Ellwanger, and 3 others.

Title: The Quaternary of the southwest German Alpine Foreland (Bodensee-Oberschwaben, Baden-Württemburg, Southwest Germany) / Dietrich Ellwanger, and 3 others.
Author(s): Ellwanger, Dietrich.
Date: 2011.
In: Eiszeitalter und Gegenwart : E&G : Quaternary Science Journal. (2011.), Vol. 69(2-3) (2011)
Abstract: Early Pleistocene fluvial gravels ("Deckenschotter") and Middle and Late Pleistocene glacial and meltwater deposits of Rhine glacier reflect transformation of alpine margin from foothill ramp to overdeepened amphitheatre. "Deckenschotter" reflect fluvial incision and evolution of source area. Eldest glacial till, in contact with "Mindel-Deckenschotter", displays no evidence of major overdeepening. Most glacial and meltwater deposits reflect major foreland glaciations of Rhine glacier, forming three generations of overdeepened basins. Eldest are directed northward to Donau, those of last glaciation westward towards Rhine (reorientation improves resolution of glacial sediments and landforms). Updates chronostratigraphy based on system of glacial/interglacial units, and supplements with lithostratigraphical system focussing on sediment bodies. Briefly defines major stratigraphical units.
