Abstract: Reviews recently dated sections from Stratzing, Joching, Stillfried, Paudorf, Göttweig and Langelois sites. Results indicate loess deposition during Upper Würmian, but most ages pre-date Last Glacial Maximum, with younger deposits eroded away. Soil formation ~28-35 ka mainly resulted in cryosol formation, hence profiles contain no evidence for more intense interstadial pedogenesis during this period. Second age cluster ~35-57 ka is dominated by loess deposits intercalated with cryosols. Colluvial processes also characterize period. Hiatus ~57-106 ka may reflect long-lasting and intensive erosion. Oldest measured age from Last Glacial is 106± 12 ka for loess on top of "Stillfried A" in Paudorf. Older loess lies immediately below this pedocomplex and its equivalents. Evidence exists for older Middle Pleistocene deposits.
