| Abstract: | Introduces special issue Glaciations and Periglacial Features in Central Europe, highlighting relevant aspects of Quaternary research in Germany, Austria and Switzerland, and devoted to 18th INQUA Congress, Bern, Switzerland, 2011. Briefly reviews history of research on Quaternary glaciations of Germany (only country affected by both Scandinavian and Alpine glaciations), including development of idea of polyglacialism, introduction of stratigraphic, sedimentological and geochronological methods, and effects of periglacial conditions. First part of volume is dedicated to northern glaciations and a loess area in Austria, second to results from archives in Alpine foreland. |
