Abstract: Outlines recent research findings on reindeer (Rangifer tarandus) thermoregulation. Behavioural and physiological responses to avoid overheating include: inhalation of large amounts of dry air through nose and evaporating water from its mucous membranes; open-mouth panting; and selective cooling of brain by diverting cooled venous blood from nose into head.
