Record #198549:

[Research progress on volcanic records in polar ice cores] / Su Jiang, and 5 others.

Title: [Research progress on volcanic records in polar ice cores] / Su Jiang, and 5 others.
Author(s): Jiang, Su.
Date: 2011.
Language: Chinese.
In: Chinese Journal of Polar Research. (2011.), Vol. 23(4) (2011)
Abstract: Describes development of methods for detecting volcanic signals in polar ice cores, using characteristics of volcanic aerosols. Reviews volcanic records of various length obtained from ice cores recovered from Greenland and Antarctica. These records provide valuable information for identifying stratospheric eruptions, dating ice cores and investigating climatic effects of vulcanism in last millennium. However, information currently available is insufficient to understand completely climatic effect of vulcanism. Improved chronology and high-resolution measurement of long/deep ice cores are needed to establish volcanic eruption history for longer time-scales, and to distinguish eruptions of climatic significance.
