Record #198502:

Analysis of cultivable aerobic bacteria isolated from bottom sediments in the Wijdefjorden region, Spitsbergen / Iwona Konieczna, and 6 others.

Title: Analysis of cultivable aerobic bacteria isolated from bottom sediments in the Wijdefjorden region, Spitsbergen / Iwona Konieczna, and 6 others.
Author(s): Konieczna, Iwona.
Date: 2011.
In: Polish Polar Research. (2011.), Vol. 32(2) (2011)
Abstract: Presents first physicochemical and microbiological studies conducted in northern area of Svalbard (Spitsbergen). Sediment samples collected from Wijdefjorden and Woodfjorden were assessed for organic matter content, water content, temperature, pH and salinity. Aerobic bacteria cultured on various growth media at 4°C, 14°C and 37°C were quantified and analyzed. Number of bacteria did not correlate with organic matter content. Antibiotic resistance testing indicated that bacterial strains from bottom sediments of lakes were resistant to eight antibiotics (out of 18 investigated)
