Abstract: Reports application of four versions of same global climate model to evaluate role of ocean bottom topography and viscosity on spatial structure of deep circulation. Study is motivated by several recent observational studies that find that sub-surface floats injected near western boundary of Labrador Sea often do not continuously follow deep western boundary current (DWBC), in contrast to traditional view that deep water formed in North Atlantic predominantly follows DWBC.. Finds that, with imposed large viscosity values, model reproduces traditional view.
