Abstract: Reports development of new method for extracting equatorward and poleward boundaries of auroral oval from images acquired by Ultraviolet Imager (UVI) aboard POLAR satellite. Method features iterative segmentation of auroral oval using FLICM clustering algorithm, followed by gap-filling based on prior information about auroral oval shape. Method is applicable to UVI images with either complete or partial imaging of auroral ovals.
