Abstract: Recounts experiences of family of Captain Jim Collins, pilot of New Zealand Airlines Flight 901 which crashed on Mount Erebus in 1979 with loss of 257 lives, with particular reference to report by Chief Inspector of Air Accidents which blamed pilot and First Officer Greg Cassin of flying irresponsibly low while ignoring warnings from other crew members. Gives detailed account of Royal Commission of Inquiry led by Justice Peter Mahon which exonerated Collins and Cassin, though findings were largely rejected by government and general public.
