Record #197957:

Cryospheric contributions to sea-level rise and variability / Konrad Steffen, and 7 others.

Title: Cryospheric contributions to sea-level rise and variability / Konrad Steffen, and 7 others.
Author(s): Steffen, Konrad.
Date: 2007.
Publisher: Oxford: Wiley-Blackwell
In: Understanding sea-level rise and variability. (2007.),
Abstract: Summarizes current estimates of contributions to sea level rise from ice sheets of Greenland and Antarctica and smaller glaciers and ice caps (respectively, 20%, 10% and 70% of total 1-2 mm/yr). Discusses mass-balance technologies in general (repeat altimetry and gravity survey, e.g.), before covering ice sheet mass balance measurements, estimates of Greenland and Antarctic mass balances, and causes of changes, including changes in snowfall, surface melting, dynamic responses to past forcing and ice shelf break-up, and increased basal lubrication. Discusses glacier and ice cap mass balance, including sources of data, multi-glacier mass balance time series, uncertainties and potential improvements. Discusses glacier, ice-cap and ice-sheet modelling, covering dynamics, surface mass balance, uncertainties and sensitivities to them, and some results/predictions. Makes recommendations for improving observing systems.
