Record #197955:

Polarimetric scattering of sea ice and snow using L-band quad-polarized PALSAR data in Kongsfjorden, Svalbard / Jung-Soo Jung, and 3 others.

Title: Polarimetric scattering of sea ice and snow using L-band quad-polarized PALSAR data in Kongsfjorden, Svalbard / Jung-Soo Jung, and 3 others.
Author(s): Jung, Jung-Soo.
Date: 2011.
Language: Korean.
In: Ocean and Polar Research. (2011.), Vol. 33(1) (2011)
Abstract: Presents measurements from May 2009 of ice thickness, snow and ice properties, and wind speed, made simultaneously with SAR data acquisition from ALOS-PALSAR. Ice was around 25-35 cm-thick, with thickness of floe broken from fast ice 10-15 cm. Average salinity was 1.9-2.0 ppt during melt period. Extracts H/A/alpha-angle parameters of fast ice, ice floe, snow and glacier from polarimetric data and identifies 18 scattering classes. Surface scattering from fast ice area, e.g., indicates low and medium entropy surface scatterers such as Bragg and random surfaces, while fast ice covered with snow belongs to zone of low entropy surface scattering similar to snow-covered land surfaces.
