Abstract: | Analyzes snow pit observations of snow cover development made in south Sakhalin during winter 2009/10. Describes formation of texture (as anisotropic features of snow structure) of selected layers and determines relationship between speed of texture development and structure of snow layer. Describes effect of ice crusts. Reports that transition from monolith texture to fibre one takes on average 38 days in snow layer formed by graupel, and 14 days in layer formed by stellars and plates. Transitions from fibre texture to columnar one take on average 35 and 15 days. |
