Abstract: Analyzes repeated lidar surveys (April/October 2007) of Fisht and Aibga experimental polygons in Pshekha and Mzymta basins, West Caucasus. Polygon sizes, altitude ranges and geomorphological diversity allow influence of Earth's surface morphology on snow cover distribution to be analyzed, using morphometric parameters from relief maps, snow cover thickness, geostatistics and spatial correlations. Focusing on indicators of microscale slope and slope exposure, establishes both direct relationship between angle of inclination of Earth's surface and snow cover thickness (in formation of cornices and cornice forms, filling with snow depressions with steep sides) and reverse relationship (when expressed by gravitational influence). Polygons show similar dependences of average snow cover thickness on steep slopes.
