Shaft was dug in 1827, and at 116.5 metres is claimed to be world's deepest in permafrost. Describes current state of mine in need of restoration. Focuses on works of 2009, such as reconstruction of heapstead building, opening up of ice blockage, and descent and television survey of mine shaft.
