Abstract: Uses long-term meteorological data series to assess permafrost-thermal regime of 3.2 m-thick soil layer in southern part of Siberian Platform. Establishes regime types for summer and winter seasons and examines regional characteristics of soil temperature response to contemporary climate changes. Notes that during period 1964-2000 increase of summer soil temperatures exceeded increase in winter temperatures, and that depth of climatic variations of temperature reached 3.2 m. Presents schematic map of permafrost distribution along Kovykta-Zhigalov gas pipeline route and provides qualitative forecast of behaviour of high-temperature permafrost in technogenous conditions. Recommends measures for minimizing effects of cryogenic processes.
