Abstract: Presents comparative study of pollen and spores in massive ice of sub-Arctic and ice and snow cover of Arctic ice caps. Shows that some typical components of tundra and ground ice pollen spectra have never been found in ice and snow cover of Arctic glaciers. These include pollen of cloudberry, aquatic plants and spores of horsetail and green moss, which are not adapted for wind transportation. Demonstrates that pollen spectra of glaciers are characterized by dominance of far-transported tree pollen such as pine, spruce, fir, maple, ash, oak, and also several herbs such as sage and ambrosia.
