Abstract: | Describes development of new water-sprinkler snow-melting system on line section between Hachinohe and Shin-Aomori. Describes local winter weather, and challenges involved in applying system used on Joetsu Shinkansen line to colder area with heavy snowfall. Derives formula to determine temperature of water to be sprinkled, based on heat balance of slab concrete on railway viaducts under severe weather conditions. Discusses installation capacity, major improvements, operational control of system, and results of performance tests that indicate appropriate operation. |
