Abstract: Presents measurements of complex glacier motion using two-pass differential SAR interferometry (C-band ERS-1/2 tandem image pair from April 1996 and L-band ALOS/PALSAR pair from winter 2007/08). Describes processing to extract glacier surface velocity (removal of topographic phase using DEM, etc.) and error analysis. Presents longitudinal and transverse profiles of surface velocity, and 2-D velocity maps. Identifies strong spatial variation in glacier motion depending on elevation and divides glacier into four fast-flowing units; three on Dadongkemadi branch and one on Xiaodongkemadi branch. Discusses influences on flow of topography, confluence of glacier branches, etc. Validates results with GPS survey data, attributing differences to inclusion of summer velocity component in GPS-measurements.
