Record #197915:

Carbonaceous aerosol particles in Svalbard snow / Sanja Forsström.

Title: Carbonaceous aerosol particles in Svalbard snow / Sanja Forsström.
Author(s): Forsström, Sanja.
Date: 2008.
In: University of Helsinki. Department of Geophysics. Report Series in Geophysics. (2008.), Vol. 57 (2008)
Abstract: Investigates concentrations of apparent elemental (ECa) and organic carbon (OC) in Svalbard snow, based on 81-sample dataset with medians (ranges) 4.1 μg/l (0 - 80.8 μ/l) of melt water for ECa and 60.8 μg/l (0 - 14473.0 μ/l) for OC. Reports ECa concentrations higher from sites in eastern Svalbard than from those in west. Discusses observed small-scale variability and uncertainties in sampling and analysis. Compares atmospheric carbonaceous aerosol measurements from 2002-2007 at Zeppelin station to concentrations measured in snow. Confirms east-west gradient of ECa in snow using atmospheric back-trajectory runs to estimate origin of air. Finds that air originating from eastern sector contains over three times more soot than air from south or south-west.
