Record #197907:

[Experiments of simulation with different sea ice rheology] / Xiying Liu.

Title: [Experiments of simulation with different sea ice rheology] / Xiying Liu.
Translated title: Experiments of simulation with different sea ice rheology.
Author(s): Liu, Xiying.
Date: 2011.
Language: Chinese.
In: Chinese Journal of Polar Research. (2011.), Vol. 23(2) (2011)
Abstract: Reports Arctic sea ice simulations with ice-ocean coupled model MITgcm, examining use of both viscous plastic (VP) and elastic-viscous-plastic (EVP) rheologies. Simulated distributions of internal stress components σ₁₁ and σ₂₂ are similar: in winter, areas with comparatively large internal stress are mostly near land north of Canadian Arctic Archipelago, Greenland and east of Greenland; in summer, mostly north of Canadian Arctic Archipelago and Greenland. Simulated σ₁₂ components vary greatly, contributing to apparent differences in force of sea-ice interaction. Difference vector has anticlockwise and clockwise features in Beaufort Sea and inner Arctic Ocean, respectively, leading to similar patterns in differences in sea-ice drift. Compares simulated velocity fields with observations. Finds EVP rheology more appropriate for Beaufort Gyre simulation.
