Record #197906:

Recurrence of heavy precipitation, dry spells and deep snow cover in Finland based on observations / Ari Venäläinen, and 6 others.

Title: Recurrence of heavy precipitation, dry spells and deep snow cover in Finland based on observations / Ari Venäläinen, and 6 others.
Author(s): Venäläinen, Ari.
Date: 2010.
In: Boreal Environment Research. (2010.), Vol. 14(1) (2010)
Abstract: Estimates recurrences of various climate variables, based on observations from 12 stations. Concentrates on "not very uncommon" events, i.e., those with a 10-year return period, using "peak over threshold" method to assess return levels. Annual maximum snow depth ranged from about 65 cm in south-western Finland to about 11 cm in Lapland. Estimates return levels for dry spells and heavy daily and monthly precipitation totals. Also uses data from about 200 stations during past 50-150 years to suggest that once-in-10-years monthly precipitation somewhere in Finland exceeds 240 ± 12 mm.
