Record #197905:

An enhanced sea-ice thermodynamic model applied to the Baltic Sea / Letizia Tedesco, and 3 others.

Title: An enhanced sea-ice thermodynamic model applied to the Baltic Sea / Letizia Tedesco, and 3 others.
Author(s): Tedesco, Letizia.
Date: 2009.
In: Boreal Environment Research. (2009.), Vol. 14(1) (2009)
Abstract: Applies refined Semtner 0-layer sea-ice model (ESIM1) to Baltic landfast sea ice. Model can simulate seasonal changes of snow and ice thickness, particularly formation of snow-ice and super-imposed-ice that play important roles in total mass balance. Includes physical processes based on intended coupling of model with one describing habitat for biogeochemical developments. Compares results with observations from 1979-1993 at four stations. Analyzes model sensitivities to albedo, oceanic heat flux, etc., and addition of relevant physical processes. Assesses robustness to changes in physical forcings. Shows that a key variable in modelling sea-ice thermodynamics is snow layer and its metamorphism, and that including meteoric ice dynamics is relevant to proper simulation of any ice season.
