Record #197902:
Ice dynamical work on Nordenskiöldbreen/Lomonosovfonna 2009 / Veijo Pohjola.
Title: | Ice dynamical work on Nordenskiöldbreen/Lomonosovfonna 2009 / Veijo Pohjola. |
Author(s): | Pohjola, Veijo. |
Date: | 2009. |
In: | Polarforskningssecretariatet Årsbok = Swedish Polar Research Secretariat Yearbook. (2009.), (2009) |
Abstract: | Reports from ongoing study in collaboration with Norwegian Polar Institute and University of Utrecht aiming to use ice flux and ice core information to project ice flux back in time, and combine with air temperature and precipitation prognoses to predict glacier behaviour. Flow of Nordenskiöldbreen has been closely monitored since 2006 using 11 GPS receivers fixed to poles along glacier flowline. Fieldwork in 2009 failed to reach four of these; two receivers were buried in snow on upper part of glacier, and two inaccessible due to crevasse risk. AWS was established in middle of glacier. |
