Investigation of the thermodynamic processes of a floe-lead system in the central Arctic during later summer / Ruibo Lei, and 4 others.
Title: | Investigation of the thermodynamic processes of a floe-lead system in the central Arctic during later summer / Ruibo Lei, and 4 others. |
Author(s): | Lei, Ruibo. |
Date: | 2011. |
In: | Advances in Polar Science. (2011.), Vol. 22(1) (2011) |
Abstract: | Reports observations made from ice-camp in vicinity of 85°N 146°W in period 20-28 August 2008, including surface air temperature above floe, lead albedo, seawater temperatures in lead and beneath floe, and lateral and basal mass balances of floe. Following freeze-up, albedo of thin ice-covered lead in 320-950 nm band was 0.46± 0.03. Vertical seawater temperature gradient in lead and temperatures in lead and beneath floe decreased gradually. By end of observation, floe thickness was at annual minimum. Reports that lateral melting (mean rate 1.0±3 during observation period, corresponding to heat flux 21±6 W/m²) made most significant contribution to floe mass balance (compared with surface and bottom balances) |
