Abstract: Contextualises new body of drawings, artist's sketch books and videos made by author over two-year period working in Rijksmuseum, Amsterdam, based on Nova Zembla collection of prints produced during Willem Barents' expedition to Novaya Zemlya in 1596, which had lain frozen in Arctic until 1871 when it was found by Elling Carlsen. Includes seven papers commenting on various aspects of Bowen's work.
