Record #197713:

Detecting changes in the state of reindeer pastures in northernmost Finland / Alfred Colpaert, Jouko Kumpula.

Title: Detecting changes in the state of reindeer pastures in northernmost Finland / Alfred Colpaert, Jouko Kumpula.
Author(s): Colpaert, Alfred.
Kumpula, Jouko.
Date: 2012.
In: Polar Record. (2012.), Vol. 48(244) (2012)
Abstract: Reports use of remote sensing to evaluate changes in state of pastures in Finnish reindeer management area. By implementing 500 x 500 m grid network and summarising pasture classes for every grid cell it is possible to visualise and quantify intensity of change. Comparison of 1995-1996 with 2005-2008 reveals clear decrease in number of cells classified as old growth dominated forest, and increase in fragmentation of reindeer winter pasture.
